A Remembrance of Evil

And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying, Is the Lord among us, or not? Exodus 17:7 KJV

The actions of the children of Israel were very disgusting to God that He named the place to preserve the remembrance of their rebellion. Massah is temptation, Meribah is Strife. This remembrance was kept as a reminder and disgrace to sin, and a warning to their seed after them. They asked the question: Is the Lord among us? Really? Biblical Illustrator says,” Notwithstanding all other tokens of God’s presence they thought their renewed difficulties were a proof that God was no longer with them”. Isn’t that what we do a greater part of the time when we encounter fresh difficulties of life? We tend to encourage doubts when these things begin to arise. Difficulties are not necessarily a sign that God is not with you. Jesus encountered difficulties, yet he was the son of God. Every leader must see beyond the present difficulties to lead well. It is called vision. Moses did. What are you experiencing at the moment? Does it appear as if God’s not there? Remember that God stood on the very spot water came out to ensure His word. He is standing over your case to ensure the answers.
