Cities Of Refuge: Announcement Of Grace

Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses: that the slayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.

On August 8, 2022, we treated a subject on: The Basics Of Social Order. In that subject we mentioned the creation of cities of refuge as God’s condition of grace to the person who mistakenly kills another. Running to the city of refuge was the only protection the slayer had from blood revenge. There were six cities of refuge mentioned in the Bible, and they were also Levitical cities. These were cities belonged to the Levites who were not permitted to be allocated lots like the rest of the tribes. Of the forty eight cities for these Levites, six were cities of refuge. These cities are: ” …Golan, Ramoth, and Bosor, on the east (left bank) of the Jordan River, and Kedesh, Shechem, and Hebron on the western (right) side”.( (Joshua 20:7-8).. No harm was suppose to happen to the perpetrator until the High Priest died, then the slayer was free to return. Today we run to Christ for refuge from every kind of sin and its dangers of condemnations.( Heb.6:18 ). Have you had cause to go to Christ when the enemy plots your downfall? Do share your testimony of protection from the whiles of the enemy. Now the city of refuge is in a person. You don’t need to run anywhere. Christ is your cover.
