The people of Israel were forbidden in making alliances with others. This was simple to understand. The people themselves were prone to compromises. This message has at least eleven repetitions in the word to show Gods seriousness: ( Ex.34:12-15; Deut.7:2; Judges2:2; 2Chron.19:2), to mention a few. This had to enshrined into the new covenant. Here is Paul in 2 Cor.6:14: ” Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness”. The implications to christian living covers from marriage to business. God views making deals with unbelievers seriously. The reason is simple. Such relations will compromise our faith in God. There is a tendency for us to be drawn into idolatry because of relationships. Unequal yoke is a term which describes the bonding of oxen to work. If the oxen are not of the same strength, they will be out of sync. This will affect their strength to work,as they will end up in circles. It’s ignorance when modern Christians think they can change an unbeliever and marry them. You can’t. You can only obey God and pray for them to be saved. Don’t make that agreement until he is saved. That’s your word for today.

Don’t Make Deals With them.
Thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor with their gods. They shall not dwell in thy land, lest they make thee sin against me: for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be a snare unto thee.
