Leaderless: The Season Of Apostasy

And the children of Israel said unto the LORD, We have sinned: do thou unto us whatsoever seemeth good unto thee; deliver us only, we pray thee, this day. And they put away the strange gods from among them, and served the LORD: and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.
Judges 10:15‭-‬16 KJV

A careful examination of the history of the people of Israel reveals a movement towards apostasy every time there had a leadership vacuum. Apostasy is a conscious abandonment of faith in God of the covenant and in the sacrificial work of Christ. Beginning from verse six of chapter ten Israel began a desertion of Jehovah. They exposed themselves to enslavement and internal fighting of one another. The mood of the country is summarised in v.18, as they cried for leadership.
Whenever a people are leaderless, things happen to their team. Harry Truman describes the state of Israel in his quote on leadership.” In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better.” Gary Wills describing the leaders function: “The leader is one who mobilizes others toward a goal shared by leaders and followers. … Leaders, followers and goals make up the three equally necessary supports for leadership.” When that support is lacking, the result is leaderless cluster. That is why it was so easy for them to slide into sin. Today, they are repenting and God is forgiving. Your greatest power for recovery is repentance. It shakes the enemy and returns grace for a forward movement. You can do the same. Tomorrow, we will see Gods response to their repentance.
