Memorial Stones

And Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests which bare the ark of the covenant stood: and they are there unto this day. Joshua 4:9 KJV

The vignette we are about to present was first published on February 12,2022. It was from a scripture in Gen.35 when Jacob set up a pillar of memorial stones. Here is the vignette***On December 21,2021, we published a vignette on memorials where Abraham named a place Yaweh-Yireh. We said that memorials were part of the life of the ancients. It was partly to keep the preservatives of memories. Today, Jacob sets up another memorial and calls the place Bethel. It is from here that most people have taken the ”Eternal Wall”, concept, to act as a reminder of: what God has done before, to generate an atmosphere of worship and confidence that it will happen again. In Josh.4, God instructed Joshua to pick and set up memorial stones from River Jordan, as a reminder of Gods faithful act of dividing the waters. Samuel sets another memorial in 1Sam.7 as a mark of Gods victory over the Philistines attack. Jesus left us the memorial of the communion as a remembrance. In the US, a memorial day serves a similar purpose. Its the last Monday of May, which is set up to honour those who have died in the American wars of freedom. Perhaps Prov.10:7 summarizes memorials as the memory of the righteous which is blessed. If God has done it for others, He will do it for you.
