To have an open ones eyes is an idiomatic expression meaning, ” to make someone realize something surprising or shocking that they had not known about or understood before: ”. When Balaam’s eyes was opened, God let him see into the spirit realm. We act the way we do based on our ability to understand things. The adage that what you don’t know won’t hurt you is incorrect. Hosea 4:6 reports that we perish for lack of knowledge. The implication is explained later in the New Testament when Paul describe ignorant people as being without the life of God( Eph.4:17-19 ). That means yo may have talents, degrees or money, yet you are still ignorant. It takes the penetration of the light of God for darkness to disappear, and ignorance to be removed. Someone says that, ” The moment anyone is yoked with ignorance, the person tends to overlook important matters that are available and that can even help such person out of troubles.”. The casualness to life is simply because of ignorance. It makes living people walk on blind and empty. Paul addresses this matter of ignorance in 1Cor.2:13-14, ” Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Ghost teaches…”, separating what man teaches from what the Holy Spirit teaches. Now its clearer that whatever led Balaam thus far was not the spirit of God. The wisdom of God is the opposite of this ignorance. In all your getting today, please get Gods wisdom.
Then the Lord opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face. Numbers 22:31 KJV
