Rewards Of Divination

And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and spake unto him the words of Balak. Numbers 22:7 KJV

Today We came late because we needed to be sure we are not disparaging authorities. For most scholars, Balaam was not Gods true prophet. They tend to quote his end as an example of an ordinary sorcerer( Joshua 13:22 ). He was killed for the matter of baal peor. God never forgets. Here is a position that is comforting in the midst of the confusions, ” Balaam was a wicked prophet in the Bible and is noteworthy because, although he was a wicked prophet, he was not a false prophet. That is, Balaam did hear from God, and God did give him some true prophecies to speak. However, Balaam’s heart was not right with God, and eventually he showed his true colors by betraying Israel and leading them astray .” Some leaders and ministers operate like this. You wouldn’t know whether they are politicians or Gods servants. They are wicked but they also tell the truth. How can the same mouth speak pure and impure at the same time? You wont be surprised then that what was brought to him was not an offering but rewards of divination. Was he a diviner? Did he put pressure on God until God gave him a permissive will? Israel as a nation was still in the making. Whose prophet was Balaam? 2Peter 2: 15-16 gives a new testament summary on him. Its called the error of Balaam. May God help us stay focussed, away from the proceeds of divination.
