Samuel’s Sons Had Their Ways

And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel….And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment. 1 Samuel 8:1‭, ‬3 KJV

It is heart breaking when a generation chooses to follow their personal whims than serve the Lord of their fathers. It looks like a fashionable thing for children not to serve God their fathers served. The truth is, their refusal points a hand at their personal formation, and the success of the devil in taking them away from God. Samuel did his best for his sons. He even made them Judges. By general standards, Samuel would be regarded as a great success, but for the personal commitment of his children. We can classify these children as those mentioned in Prov.19:26. They brought shame to their parents. The Bible says they took bribes and perverted judgements. They rejected their fathers instructions. So the people rejected them in return. They were so bad that the people preferred a King. Prov.22:6 is an admonishion to keep doing the service of child training, despite bad experiences. Someone’s children affected the entire government to change from a theocracy to mornachy. Despite Samuel’s explanation, they opted for Kingship. Those children had terrible impact on the populace. How are your children? Let’s pray for them all.
