The Ark In The House Of Abinadap

And the men of Kirjath-jearim came, and fetched up the ark of the LORD, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the LORD. And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjath-jearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the LORD. 1 Samuel 7:1‭-‬2 KJV

A tragedy led to the abandonment of the ark for twenty years( 1Sam.6:19 ), where 50,070 people killed for looking into the ark. Then people were afraid, but they yearned for the Lord. When the ark came to Kirjath-jearim, they looked for one spiritual brother and dumped it with him. The brother, Abinadap was a levite and the son of King Saul( 1Chron.9:39 ). Its very significant that for twenty years no one died in Abinadap’s house. His son Eleazar was sanctified to take care of the ark. Abinadap died in the battle King Saul died(1Sam.31:2 ) at about the thirteenth year. The ark was still in his house. About seven years later when they tried to move the ark, Uzzah died, and they left it in the house of Obededom. Why were these people picked to contain the ark when others were afraid? People know serious minded people. It speaks a lot about Abinadap, while being the son of Saul, he was a levite. While Saul’s other children could do what they liked, Abinadap and his children were different. Its a consoling picture in the midst of a troublesome family. You can chose what you want to be in your time. You can change history. No demon is strong enough to make you continue in evil tradition. Break the bounds and be different. Keep the ark.
