The Decay Of Faith And Of Worship

And there was a young man out of Beth-lehem-judah of the family of Judah, who was a Levite, and he sojourned there…. And Micah said unto him, Whence comest thou? And he said unto him, I am a Levite of Beth-lehem-judah, and I go to sojourn where I may find a place.
Judges 17:7‭, ‬9 KJV

The story of this Levite and Micah is a declaration of the decay that had set in in the very society of God. Moses and Joshua would have wept at what the people they brought in from Egypt have become. Micah is a thief who has a house full of gods. He now finds a Levite, and employs same to cater for his gods. A Levite was someone in the temple who provided assistance to the Priest in the worship of Jehovah in the temple. They were accorded this special status in time of Moses for helping to slaughter idolaters( Ex.32:25-29 ). Today, one is employed to cater to idols. The change is too deep and too drastic. It reminds us of the attitude of people today about fundamental Christianity. Namani Nharrel has done an extensive work on the state of our faith today. He defines it as: ” … when fundamental and foundational Christian principles, beliefs and practices are twisted, or manipulated to accommodate teachings that serve purposes, than the Lord intended. It is the highjacking of God’s purpose by Satan and his agents to spite God”. When faith decays, man becomes the centre of faith rather than God. God now exists for man use instead of man for God. Micah employed a Levite to serve idols for food. May God help our ministers to go beyond the belly. Its heartbreaking. Our time must be different, in Jesus Name.
