The Introduction Of the Judges

And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel…. Nevertheless the LORD raised up judges, which delivered them out of the hand of those that spoiled them. Judges 2:10‭, ‬16 KJV

My heart breaks for the generation after Joshua’s generation. It was not so long, but they had suddenly forgotten where they came from and why God brought them home. Ecc1:4 records that one generation passes, and another takes its place. One scholar observes that usually, ”massive shifts in outlook, ethics, and moral values sometimes occur”. The reason is simple. There’s a disconnect between one generation and the next. In a simple calculation, the scholar says that it takes a certain amount of time for a generation to grow. ” Each new generation takes about 20-25 years to become the 2nd generation. Then, as they raise their own family, they gradually become the 3rd generation. Often even the 4th generation (60-75) and fifth generation (80-100) are still contributing and influencing. Thus, there are generally five generations on earth.” When it is said that a generation arose that did not know the Lord, a real tragedy of disconnect had occurred in Israel. Jim Sole examines Psa.103:1-2 where he gave a warning to people who forget Gods doing in their lives. He calls it the most dangerous form of forgetfulness. Thank God for His mercies. In the midst of this tragedy, God raised up Judges to deliver them. These were other helpers who were not as mega as Moses and Joshua, but they were anointed to lead from time to time. Does your generation remember the acts of God? Will your children’s generation do better? Please pray for them.
