The Leaders Competence

And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand. Exodus 17:9 KJV

Someone observes that there are three crucial leadership competencies that must be developed to make for effective leadership. These are: 1. The ability to lead, 2. The ability to develop, and 3. The ability to get results. Today Moses demonstrates all these these three concepts in the battle of Rephidim. The Amalekites were the descendants of Amalek, the grandson of Esau. They attacked Israel from the rear( Deut.25:18 ) and killed most stragglers. The action in this verse shows Moses’s competencies in leadership. Moses knew there has to be a team to win, with him as the servant leader. He knew how to delegate and what he had to do. He didn’t need to go to fight on the ground. He fought on top with God and the rod in his hands. He knew the spirit realm controlled the physical so he prepared an environment for victory. They had to win to reach the land of promise. Before today’s verse we heard little or nothing of Joshua, but not anymore. He seems to have the trust of Moses. And, we are expectant that a new leader is in the making. Victory is brought to bear by the hands of God. What you do as a leader has a direct bearing on those you carry along. Its this kind of sacrifice by Jesus that made the disciples willing to pay the ultimate price. Every competent leader is willing to lay down his life for the sheep. That’s what Jesus did.
