The Reversals

And Moses spake so unto the children of Israel: but they hearkened not unto Moses for anguish of spirit, and for cruel bondage. Exodus 6:9 KJV

In story telling, there comes an event that creates a fresh complication for the protagonist. It sends the story in a new direction, increasing the stakes. This is the peoples story. Pharaoh’s announcement has brought a subdued sanity to them. In Ex.4:31, they had believed, and worshiped God. Now, they are broken and despondent. Here is Adam Clarke,” Their bondage was become so extremely oppressive that they had lost all hope of ever being redeemed”. The Pulpit Commentary rubs it in this way: ” The Israelites, who had expected a speedy deliverance… found themselves only the more downtrodden for Moses’ interference. ..” Even Moses was rattled. He kept telling God he was of uncircumcised lips. Has your conditioned worsened because you called God into it? Its an old strategy used by the devil to show that God will not win. When I was younger, I would hurriedly flip the pages over to see how the story will end. Look over my shoulder, let’s flip the pages. That’s not how your story will end. God is too good to fail. When hope is deferred, it makes the heart sick but a fulfilment is like a tree of life.( Prov.13:12 ). Tomorrow, the Saviour knocks. You are not alone. Take that to the bank.
