Vengeance is Not the Point

And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God? But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive. Genesis 50:19‭-‬20 KJV

In our yesterday’s post, we transposed the names of Balaam and Balak. Balaam was the prophet, Balak was king of Moab. Thank you to those who pointed it out. For today, we see the fear of Joseph’s brothers after their father died. They really believed in revenge. Revenge is the action of harming others in return for a harm or injury suffered at their hands. The brothers feared a payback, a reprisal and retribution. Their believe is an ancient philosophy that has been adopted wildly. It is the attempt to restore balance in a moral universe, where the wrongdoers are made to pay for what they have done. It makes a beautiful storyline in western, eastern or African movies. Drama thrives on conflicts. The irony of revenge is that it escalates the conflict, usually resulting in a bloodbath. Some people believe in in the virtues of vengeance. The Bible teaches us differently, especially in the new testament. Here are a few Bible verses: Prov.24:29, Rom.12:19, 1Peter 3:9, Mat.5:38-39,1Thes.5:15,,Lev.1918. Vengeance belongs to God. He knows how to apportion His justice. God is just. Joseph chose to see the God’s perspective. When you see that God can work through your suffering to accomplish purpose, its easy to let go. Rom.8:28. Good Morning.
