And the man Micah had an house of gods, and made an ephod, and teraphim, and consecrated one of his sons, who became his priest. In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
Judges 17:5-6 KJV
Have you ever imagined what the world would kook like without leadership? Here is Hary S.Truman on the subject, ” In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better”. Here is Proverbs 11:14 in the Amplified Bible : ” Where there is no [wise, intelligent] guidance, the people fall [and go off course like a ship without a helm], But in the abundance of [wise and godly] counselors there is victory”. Proverbs 11:14 in NLT makes a beautiful read of the same warning: ” Without wise leadership, a nation falls; there is safety in having many advisers ”. In our quote, verse 6 should have been written before verse 5. What we are reading about Micah, the mother and the purchase of gods are the offsprings of lack of leadership in a nation that was supposed to be under God. Mandy Flint and Elisabet Vinberg Hearn, attempt to explore what it will look like to have a society without leadership in what they call ”Leadership Void”. This is their conclusions: ” …unless someone takes charge providing some much needed certainty and reassurance, dissidence and discontent can grow quickly and out of control. We are witnessing a disintegrating society where gods are bought for children who steal. This society would have been a heartbreak for Moses or Joshua. It reminds us of our society today. If you steal to lead, you have no moral compass to judge another who steals. Our nations need divine interventions. May it start with you.
