A Broken And Contrite Heart

And it shall be, that he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel. Joshua 7:15 KJV

I found myself trying to define the actions of Achan today. He was deceitful, a liar and a pretender. These are the very characters of the devil. Achan waited for the process to find the culprit to begin. For me, I would have gone out there to confess, and save the entire process. Maybe remotely he believed that God did not see. He did not need to waste everyone’s time by being deceitful. Psa.51:17 says that a broken and contrite heart, God will not despise. Truthfulness is one of the ways for achieving leadership integrity. Trust is a leadership quality even for a soldier like Achan. When he kept quiet, he made a choice between the Babylonish garments and the lives of perishing Israeli soldiers. Fear God, because ones sins will find the person out. Some people do not care about consequences in life, but its there. Its Gods way of balancing truthfulness with rewards, and deceitfulness with results. This Eph 4:25 on the New Testament position on this subject: ” Therefore, laying aside falsehood, speak truth each one of you with his neighbor, for we are members of one another”. Integrity is one of the basic components of a military combat training. Achan failed. You won’t fail in Jesus Name.
