For I am the Lord your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. For I am the Lord that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.
Leviticus 11:44-45 KJV
We posted a vignette on July 23,2021 about the holiness of God. This is what we said, ” Holiness is being set apart for God. Holiness is not a one time event. Its what we live with all our lives ”. Today, we are given a reason to be holy. Its the fact that our God is a holy God. While the old testament holiness demanded a lot of abstinence from eating things, the new testament holiness requires a separation from a lot of worldly things. Several times God has given the commandment for us to be holy because He is holy( Lev.11:44-45; 19:2; 20:26; 1Peter 1:15-17 ). God is not asking us to do what will be too difficult for us to do. He is personally doing same Himself. Nancy Leigh DeMoss says that ” True holiness isn’t cold and deadening – it’s warm and inviting. It’s irresistible. Those who think otherwise have never seen it, but only its caricatures ”. Holiness is not only a n old testament demand, it is part of the new testament demand as well. Jesus confronted the Jews: Which of you can accuse me of any sin?( John 8:46 ). Wow. That’s holiness. You can live holy here on earth. So many are doing it, so can you.
