David Took Zion.

‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭5:7‬ , 10 KJV‬‬ [7] Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion: the same is the city of David. [10] And David went on, and grew great, and the LORD God of hosts was with him.

These two verses are a summary. The details of the taking is cinematic. Zion means the ruling place of the King. It was a mountainous location in Jerusalem. When the land was occupied, the Jebusites dwelt unmoved in Zion. The place is described as an impenetrable fortress because of its natural topography. Someone describes it as a fort on top of a mountain. ” To scale the sharp walls of the mountain, you’ll have to be heavenly armed as the defenders inside the fort would shoot arrows at you, pour hot oil on you and do whatever is at their disposal to stop the invaders from scaling the walls from the outside. Let’s say, that you have managed to scale the wall. Then on the North side there was a thick iron gate that would stop you entering into the fort ”. Its strategic location made it that Israel occupied the rest of the land while the Jebusites continued to dwell there. Here is the background of the location in warfare. ” Zion had a long history of successfully withholding invasion. Under Joshua, Judah could not drive the Jebusites from its stronghold (Joshua 15:63). Later on in Judges, when the Benjamites settled in Jerusalem, they also were unable to dislodge the Jebusites. It was not until the time of David, that Zion was conquered.” There is a prophetic reason for the defeat of the Jebusites and of this fortress. It was God’s announcement that David’s settling unto the throne is assured. There are battles that end all battles. We will share the details of how it happened later. Today be rest assured that no matter the stronghold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah will prevail with you to overcome.
