Great Leadership Attracts Favour

‭‭2 Samuel 17:27-29 KJV‬‬ [27] And it came to pass, when David was come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim, [28] brought beds, and basons, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and flour, and parched corn, and beans, and lentiles, and parched pulse, [29] and honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of kine, for David, and for the people that were with him, to eat: for they said, The people is hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness.

It is significant that wherever King David turned as he retreated from Absalom, favour followed him. Apparent enemies like Ammon came out in blessing the King in the wilderness. This King commanded respect among the nations. Read again what Nahash brought to the King. It is not as if they were friends. Read their thoughts. Why would the people who were in perennial struggle with Israel over territories come out to them with a blessing, except God had commanded it. It is called Commanded Blessings. The modern city of Amman in Jordan, occupies roughly the same site. They got blessed by God. What is your reaction when good people experience misfortunes? Some would have laughed at David as Shimei did. But God expects us to do differently. Prov.25:21, Rom.12:20 says if your enemy is hungry, feed him. Modern philosophy would say: starve him to death. Ammonites blessed David instead. What do you do when you have the edge? These people blessed Said in the wilderness. There’s a blessing waiting for you in the wilderness.
