How Are The Mighty Fallen?

‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭1:19‭-‬20‬ ‭KJV‬‬ [19] The beauty of Israel is slain upon thy high places: How are the mighty fallen! [20] Tell it not in Gath, Publish it not in the streets of Askelon; Lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, Lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.

This poem begins from here till v.27. Ralph Klein explains that ”The poem offers another take on the last fifteen chapters of 1 Samuel, casting David as noble and broken by these tragic events, and yet worthy to be king himself,” It may be a dirge about the departed, but it is more about the nobility of David as a King in waiting. The dirge is very earthly. It addresses the mountains of Gilboa, the departed and the daughters of Israel, not God. David is concerned that the story may be told in the streets of the Philistine cities. his heart is broken, and he curses the mountains where it happens. David praises the bravery of the pair, then focuses on his relationship with Johnathan. David would have found it hard to become without Johnathan. The poem is sweet morning.. Who are the people contributing to your becoming? Some may do it positively and some negatively. It takes a good heart to appreciate all. They pushed you to become. Today, Jesus is King, the devil thought he had Jesus, but he thought wrong. The King is waiting.
