Self Talk And The Pursuit Of Destiny

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭27:1‬ ‭AMPC‬‬ [1] BUT DAVID said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape into the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will despair of seeking me any more within the borders of Israel, and I shall escape out of his hand.

Self talk may go by different nomenclatures. It may be internal monologue, self dialogue, inner voice, name it. Ironically some people claim not to have the experience. Dr Debra Wilson explores the scientific aspects of the phenomenon in a Healthline article on April,10,2023. This is her submissions: ” ..,” “the voice inside your head,” or an “inner voice,” your internal monologue is the result of certain brain mechanisms that cause you to “hear” yourself talk in your head without actually speaking and forming sounds. While an internal monologue is a common occurrence, not everyone experiences it”. Well, David had the experience, and we are reading about it in this verse. When this internal monologue is subject to the control of the Holy Spirit, it become a special gift which may manifest either as word of knowledge, prophecy or word of wisdom. For today, what dictated David’s monologue was fear. Recently, there were some rounds of discourse on Tik Tok on the matter. Carolyn Steber explains how serious this matter is in her life. ” My inner voice mulls over problems, narrates my day, assesses situations as they’re happening, pulls up funny memories — and it’s been that way forever”. Whoever or whatever controls your self talk, determines your destiny because self talk has a direct impact on behaviour. Self talk functions in ” self-criticism, self-reinforcement, self-management, and social assessment”. What or who motivates what you do? Is it God or the devil?
