When Leadership Happens

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭30:4‬ ‭KJV‬‬ [4] Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep. [6] And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.

Real leadership happens during crises. It is when you understand effective emotional management. In our episode, everyone was distressed, and so was David. In leadership, it doesn’t natter how you feel, you must provide a sense of direction. When David saw that the handshake has passed the elbow, he encouraged himself in the Lord. Someone says that means, ” To wean you from all confidence in the flesh, to help you get your eyes off people, off books and sermons, off well–meaning friends and associates — and on the power of God that worketh in you”. David’s first act was enquiry from the Lord. Now this is very important. Don’t let emotions becloud you in the midst of crises. David understood that. Secondly, hear God. David did just that. By here is an advice from a contemporary situation from someone, ” Guiding the employees so that they don’t panic during times of crisis. Careful planning can help in coping with all emergency situations. Identifying all the important systems and processes helps the organization’s seamless functioning”. All that will go through the window without the guidance of the spirit. Gene Klann, author of our book Crisis Leadership, adds: “During a crisis, your goal is to reduce loss and keep things operating as normal as possible.” Read the entire story and see how David strategically left some in the camp, some by the brook, and shared victory with all. Crises are not meant to swallow you. They will bring out the leader in you.
