A Hardened Heart

And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt. But Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments. Exodus 7:3‭-‬4 KJV

This matter Pharaoh’s hardened heart has occupied scholars over the years. To mist people, it seems unfair for God to have hardened Pharaoh’s heart and then punish him. We need to ask the right question. Why did he reject the simple request of his creator? Why did Pharaoh, agree on certain times and go back on his word? Why did he refuse God’s warnings? Beyond Pharaoh, the story is a warning to us. The heart is a part of the soul, and the seat of emotions, beliefs and aspirations. Luke 6:45 tell us our actions and speakings come from, the heart. In Prov.4:23, King Solomon tells us to guard our hearts with all diligence because out of it comes the issues of life. When our hearts become hardened, we become emotionally and spiritually numb to the prodding of the Holy Spirit. This is now a serious study in neuroscience. We can tune out God, suppress our feelings with ”I don’t care” attitude. It is an announcement of self combined with an absence of shame in the face of sin. Its a new age peculiarity where we think God is not a priority. When this attitude attack a people, you hear things like, ” I don’t care”, ”I’m okay”. A hardened heart will trigger Gods response. That’s what happened to Pharaoh. He was left only with consequences. Today you and I have a chance to approach Him with a broken and contrite heart. Please do it.
