Another Heart

And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day. 1 Samuel 10:9 KJV

We have already dealt with being turned into another man. This is how this particular verse is rendered in GOD’S WORD Translation:
” When Saul turned around to leave Samuel, God changed Saul’s attitude: That day all these signs happened ”. That implies a new way of thinking about the kingship. This interpretation is collaborated in John Gill’s commentary which says the change of heart was , ” ..not in a moral or spiritual sense, not a new heart, and a new spirit, as in conversion, but in a civil sense, a right heart, a heart fit for government; filled with wisdom and prudence to rule a people; with courage and magnanimity to protect and defend them against their enemies, and fight for them; a heart not taken up with the affairs of husbandry, with care for his father’s asses, and looking after his herds, but filled with concern for the civil welfare of Israel, and with schemes and contrivances for their good, and with warm resolutions to deliver them out of the hands of their enemies ..” Another comment says that, ” The “heart” is a frequent metaphor in the OT that has been adopted by many cultures (including our modern culture) – the heart is viewed as a metaphor for the seat of emotions and the true self”. In the New Testament, Elmer Towns says the heart is the center of spiritual life. So, it is used differently. It takes a different heart to be a different man. Today, subject your heart to God, because out of it are the issues of life.
