Cast Aside: The Jawbone

And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking, that he cast away the jawbone out of his hand, and called that place Ramath-lehi. And he was sore athirst, and called on the LORD, and said, Thou hast given this great deliverance into the hand of thy servant: and now shall I die for thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised? Judges 15:17‭-‬18 KJV

To cast aside someone or something is for you to get rid of them because they are no longer necessary or useful to you. Samson learnt a new life lesson in Ramath-lehi. We tend to through away things and people who helped us at a certain time in our life, just because we are in a new level of life or favour. As much as God was using Samson, he had a casualness of attitude to precious things. He had just finished killing a thousand Philistines with a jawbone, then he cast it aside. Shouldn’t that jawbone be a symbol of Gods visitation? He cast it aside. Have you been cast aside because some friends are no longer seeing your usefulness? Sometimes a new relationship make them forget you helped them in a season. Some children do it to their parents when new romantic relationship enters their eyes. The parents become, ” old school ”. Sometimes we do it to God when our struggles finally hit. We tend to elevate the endeavours higher than God who had mercies on us. We may abandon fellowship. We may find a new church to worship so that it will meet with our new status. So we may cast the old Pastor who prayed and fasted with us. Is anybody there? So out of mercy for the bone, God filled it with water, then made Samson thirsty. Don’t worry, they will look for you. You will carry virtue. Don’t be bitter, keep giving. So Samson returned to the jawbone. I feel like preaching now, but for space. They are coming back to you. Believe me, they are…
