The King was already a wealthy man. Its intriguing that Jesse had to send David to King Saul in a special way. This is how it is rendered in NLT: ” Jesse responded by sending David to Saul, along with a young goat, a donkey loaded with bread, and a wineskin full of wine.(1 Sam.16:20 ). There’s something these Easterners knew about appearing before a king that we may learn from. This tradition was borne out of a standing law on how to appear before the Lord( Deut.16:16-17 ). Jesse was a man of respect and order. Beyond that he knew that this was a special opportunity for his son to be in the service of the King.
Notice what happened. David went to play to keep demons away, but ends up as an armour beater. That’s a very different job. It takes a special someone who is committed to the Lord first and then their fellow brethren”. That is David. Who are you an armour beater to? Who are you committed to protect? David was anointed King, but he was committed first as an armour beater. You can become from where you are. Be committed.
