God must Be Iconoclast.

Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold. Exodus 20:23‭ KJV

The word ”Iconoclast” is from the Greek root meaning a breaker or destroyer of images, especially the ones used in religious worship. Some people take it to mean a destroyer of settled beliefs. No belief should become settled that does not have God at its center. Church history from the Second Council of Nicaea attempted to settle this in 787. Using the word ”veneration” for objects to us is another way of replacing Christ in worship. Most protestant reformers are iconoclasts. Today’s verse is an expansion of the second command. Its a direct instruction against idolatry in worship and even veneration of objects. Idolatry is described by Webster as excessive devotion to or reverence to a person or thing. These idols replace God in worship. Today, this idolatry take many forms with the placement of self at the center. Some people may not fall before physical idols, but they may fall before money, self, pride in accomplishments, ego, materialism or accomplishments of sciences. Someone says that this kind of idolatry is focused on the three lusts addressed in the new testament( 1 John 2:16 ). The standing order is not to replace God with anything else. That’s an easy thing to do, but I’m persuaded better things of you.
