Rebellion And Associates.

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, He hath also rejected thee from being king.
1 Samuel 15:23 KJV

No sin operates alone. Sin operates in groups. In this verse, we are shown a cluster of sins and their operational associates. The first is rebellion which operates like divination. Divination provides a satanic source of knowledge other than God. It is opposition to divine authority which begins in the heart. Rebellion affects the heart through disobedience to constituted authority. It provides an alternative mode for behaviour. The other associated sin is stubbornness which always seeks to have its own way. This is from a heart that rejects change but worships it’s personal suggestions. This single verse describes Saul’s character so well that when he begins to pursue David or visit the witch of Endor, we are not too surprised. It all began with one sin: Stubbornness. God knows our end from the beginning. If we do not deal with the little leaven when it is starting, it will make a contrary outburst in our lives. From thus point onward, Saul began a different manifestation. The devil began to take over his life. How do you react when sinful matters are brought to your notice? Saul wanted respect. God wanted repentance. Whose report will be yours?
