The Call of Barak: Prophetic Direction

And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh-naphtali, and said unto him, Hath not the LORD God of Israel commanded, saying, Go and draw toward mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun? And I will draw unto thee to the river Kishon Sisera, the captain of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into thine hand. Judges 4:6‭-‬7 KJV

The prophetic leadership of Deborah is demonstrated in this selection. It takes an insightful leader to know ones limitations and strengths. Deborah knew that indeed. She did not need to adorn a military uniform as a male counterpart would have done. She gave a direction, guided by a prophetic insight. A person may receive a prophetic dream, thought, or impression. That insight will have to be subjected to the word of God in life situation. In Deborah’s case, a woman was to kill Jabin. Heber,a descendant of Reuel the Midianite, the father-in-law of Moses did just that. Prophetic leaders lead in Gods ways; and may be disruptive of the status quo, but in alignment with God. They provide alternative realities where God is honoured. Some prophetic leaders in the Bible include ”Samuel, David, Jeremiah, Daniel and his friends, as well as Mary.” As a leader what happens when you have an insight in God? In the New Testament, we have Agabus;Judas Barsabbas and Silas, who also were elders of the church in Jerusalem. May God raise more prophetic leaders who know what to do in our congregations. It will ensure victory.
