The Two Onyx Stones

And thou shalt take two onyx stones, and grave on them the names of the children of Israel: And thou shalt put the two stones upon the shoulders of the ephod for stones of memorial unto the children of Israel: and Aaron shall bear their names before the Lord upon his two shoulders for a memorial. Exodus 28:9‭, ‬12 KJV

Two onyx stones carrying the names of the twelve tribes of Israel were put put in the ephod worn by the High Priest as he ministered before the Lord. It is significant that the names were to be carried around the chest area. It denotes that every Priest must have a burden of the people he represents. Its the burden that will make the Priest to present the cares and needs of the people unto God. Carrying these names before God was also for the Priest to remember that he is the peoples representative, and the people belong to God. When Jesus carried the cross, it was actually our burdens he carried. When he died on the cross, it was more of a broken heart for us than just the pains. So the ancient Priest carried the names. There are moments as a minister I’ve had to spend times praying for our people. Sometimes the burden are very shattering, because we desire Gods intervention on the people. Your name is written on the heart of Jesus as he makes intercession for us. It may appear that God is silent for a moment. Be encouraged that your name is in His presence. He knows what you are experiencing. Here are a few Bible verses to support He knows and remembers your name: Isa.43; John 10:14-15; Psa.91:14. Today, remember you are in God’s heart no matter the experience. Thank you Lord!
