There’s a difference between craftiness and wisdom. Craftiness is having skill in deception. It is being sly in attitude, clever at attaining one’s ends by indirect and often deceptive means. Wisdom is sn element of personal character that enables one to distinguish the wise from the unwise. It is having a deep understanding and intelligent application of knowledge. The Bible describes it as the fear of God: “the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding” (Job 28:28). In 1 Cor.3:19, craftiness is described as foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness”. The wise here is worldly wisdom, which is craftiness David was not crafty. He was wise. Jerry Robinson says there are six steps to this wisdom. 1.Having a strong determination to walk wisely (Proverbs 2:1-7).2. Praying for this wisdom(James 1:5-8). 3. Meditating on God’s Word Psalms 119:97-105). 4. Actively obeying and applying God’s Word
(James 1:22 ). 5. Being sensitive to the prompting of the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 63:10). 6. Associating with, and learning from, wise people (Psalm 1:1; Proverbs 13:20). Its no wonder that Saul set David over the men of war and even the servants accepted him. Go for wisdom. Do it right, eschew craftiness, and let God take the glory.
