Flee Idolatry

“Don’t turn to worthless gods or cast metal idols. Never make any gods for yourselves. I am the Lord your God.

We used to read this in King James version and think about a major traditional medicine man’s who had a shrine in front of his house. It never occurred to us that worshiping other gods will become a 21st century phenomenon. Idolatry means abandoning the worship of God Almighty to worship other things, gods and demons.
On the 10th of August, we mentioned that adultery is a form of idol worship. It is giving in to a different god. Idol worship has also been defined as, ” extreme admiration, love, or reverence for something or someone ” other than God. This expands the scope of the subject beyond the picture of the traditional medicine man. Wikipedia add an extra dimension in its definition: ” Idolatry consists in divinizing what is not God. Man commits idolatry whenever he honors and reveres a creature in place of God, whether this be gods or demons (for example, satanism), power, pleasure, race, ancestors, the state, money, etc ”. Just think of what is done in some churches today. That expands it into contemporary times. Here is God’s new testament instructions on idolatry: 1Cor.10:7,14; 1John 5:21; Col.3:5 ). We could go on. John Piper says, ” “It starts in the heart: craving, wanting, enjoying, being satisfied by anything that you treasure more than God. That is an idol” . Now that’s heavy. Read that again. So every disordered love or priority becomes idolatry, including the pursuit of money. God help us to keep you as focus in Jesus Name.
