Promises Made: Final Instructions

And they came near unto him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones: But we ourselves will go ready armed before the children of Israel, until we have brought them unto their place: and our little ones shall dwell in the fenced cities because of the inhabitants of the land. Numbers 32:16‭-‬17 KJV

It looks like God was not yet ready to just let Moses go. Has anyone been there? You’ve reached an end, but its not really the end. God loved Moses. So does He every committed child of God. These verses are not about Moses but the tribe of Reuben, Gad, and half of the tribe of Manasseh. When they knew that they’ve been misunderstood, they were willing to go forward with an explanation. They will continue to make these explanations many years later, as to why they had to stay east of the Jordan( Joshua 22 ). Moses was satisfied, and they were committed to go ahead and fight with their brethren. Here is a man whose feet will not touch the promised land still interested in the future of the people. He didn’t need to steal to ”protect” his grandchildren when he will be gone. He was genuinely interested in the welfare of what God had spoken concerning Israel. These are classic examples of the leaders needed to make a difference. He reminded them of their history to make them stay focused on what God had assigned. Would you be surprised that God appear to be vacillating in taking him home. He was a leader every community wants to be around forever. Make yourself so useful to God that He will consider whether to take or to leave you around. I see you affecting generations.
