The Daylight Rebel

And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. Numbers 25:6 KJV

It was a time of crying and repentance. The people had gathered at the door of the tabernacle to ask for forgiveness, but there were casual stragglers who thought, ” What the heck ”. Zimri, the son of Salu, brought in Cozbi, the daughter of Zur to commit immorality in the midst of national repentance. There are people like these, who appear not affected by general mood of repentance. He did this in the sight of Moses and the rest. Thank God for Phinehas, the grandson of Aaron who took out the sinners and stayed the plague. More people would have died. Every sin needs to be repented of, so that the devil has no room to maneuver. God was so happy that He granted Phinehas two things: His covenant of peace, and an everlasting Priesthood. By the time the rebel was killed, twenty four thousand had died. Don’t be so casual that you will allow people to die for your personal pleasure. Every child of God aught to be as altruistic as Christ was.’Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful desires will harvest the consequences of decay and death. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the spirit.” Gal 6:8 ( NLT ).
