Change And Continuity With The Zelophehads

Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of them that gathered themselves together against the Lord in the company of Korah; but died in his own sin, and had no sons. Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he hath no son? Give unto us therefore a possession among the brethren of our father. Numbers 27:3‭-‬4 KJV

The daughters of Zelophehad were real change makers. They were raised in a patrilineal society where men only inherited from their fathers. The only snag is that their father had them girls, and there was no male among them. The girls were focused to modify history to accommodate their conditions. They went to Moses and the elders of Israel to make demand for their father. The verses above is the demand they made. You see, it takes time for culture to change. It takes a longer time to make it a part of history. Desmond Tutu had observed in a situation similar to what was happening to the Zelophehads: ” If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality ”. The girls took on great boldness and demanded a change. Continuity was nothing except they had their answers. In the answers they got, God was on their side. History changed. Your condition can change. Even if it looks like your case was written on concrete, pick this from the daughters of the Zelophehads. Just go on with an open face and see God transform your case from glory to glory ( 1Cor.3:18 ). Change is starting, and its in your favour.
