The Year of Jubilee

And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.
Leviticus 25:10 KJV

There’s an abundance of literature on this subject. The people of Israel enjoyed different kinds of rests beginning with the rest on the seventh day to worship God. So after seven years of sabaths, the year following will be a fiftieth year. This year was then declared as a year of Jubilee. Hope Bollinger has this to say about this year of Jubilee: ” The Year….was a year full of releasing people from their debts, releasing all slaves, and returning property to who owned it (Leviticus 25:1-13).
This year was also dedicated to rest.
During this year, the Israelites were not supposed to reap or harvest; it was a time for people to return to their families and loved ones ”. It was thus a year of release, restoration and restitution. Every one had a clean slate to start on. During the Jubilee, no one planted, even the land had a rest. God ensured that there was a three year harvest on one year to carry the people to the next harvest. People were released from debts and even slaves were free to go back home. Today, we are released from the burdens and consequences of sin because of the death of Jesus Christ. Any accusation from hell intending to hold you hostage must remember that Christ is our Jubilee. We don’t have to wait for time anymore. We can enjoy the freedom and the abundance of Jubilee through the our fruits of the New Creation. The old testament Jubilee was a foretaste of the real Jubilee. You can enter into it today. Thank you Jesus!
