Training For Team Leadership

And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do. Exodus 18:20 KJV

If it was today, Jethro might have been thought to be a graduate of some high sounding university. He had wisdom for team training. He understood that a leader as one is limited. If you multiply leadership by training, you have multiplied ability in people management. Effective team leadership begins with selection, training and familiarity with the process and protocols of leadership. We will get to selection tomorrow. Today, Jethro is concerned with what should be taught: ordnances ( statues of God and society); laws( protocols of social and community actions); the way to walk( daily behaviour under God); and commitment to daily duties. That is a whole curriculum covering guidance, direction, instruction, motivation and monitoring of performance. Christ came with the same curriculum. He picked the twelve and poured in qualitative and quantitative demands into them. Then he left. The church is the result of that training. John Maxwell has adapted these curriculum in his leadership trainings and couch them in modern language. After the leader, its the team trained to know what the leader knows. That’s what a Midian priest told Moses. Are you still working alone? Start training the team.
