Cashiering Aaron

Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor: And strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be gathered unto his people, and shall die there.
Numbers 20:25‭-‬26 KJV

Its a heart breaking experience when someone in the military is cashiered or is stripped of his rank and dismissed in a very public ceremony. Its the highest level of discipline that can be given to a soldier. Memory Alpha reports that being stripped of rank or ones command is a form of discipline more severe than demotion. Demotion is a reduction in rank, but to be completely stripped is to loose all privileges of the rank. Alfred Dreyfus was stripped of his rank in the French military for passing information to the Germans. Here is Aaron being invited by his brother for a stripping. There was the son standing by, knowing too well the father is about to die. There’s no gratuity, no pension, just old clothes from the father to him. The people spent a month to mourn him. We don’t know whether the son was told not to cry. It was time up for Aaron. Just imagine if you were Moses. What would be passing through your mind? Its called Leadership. Thank God he left a successor. God is a merciful God. You won’t be left without an inheritance. His mercies endures for ever.
