Don’t be a Part of a Lemming Crew

“You must not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you are called to testify in a dispute, do not be swayed by the crowd to twist justice. And do not slant your testimony in favor of a person just because that person is poor. Exodus 23:2‭-‬3 NLT

Lemmings are small rodents that live in large tunnel system during the winter in the Arctic. They are usually between 5-7 inches long. It is believed that due to strong biological urges or migratory behaviour, Lemmings may choose to commit mass suicide by jumping off cliffs. That is a herd behaviour. Antelopes react to danger based on herd behaviour. They don’t need to see the danger. Our metaphor for the title is based on such mentality. Today’s verses focus on our not being part of such band wagon. These instructions warn against life reactions based on herd instincts. The fact that others have done things and get apparently scot free is not a reason for us to do it. In fact one reason you will be exposed is because you are a child of God. You can’t join the crowd to cause evil. Herd mentality is very strong with a lot of people who have deep family associations. The scripture requires a clean break.( 2 Cor. 6:17 ). That is what the christian walk requires, a separation to be an example. That way, your entire community will take note that there is something different about you. Yes, its the washing of the blood of Jesus. You are not a Lemming Crew. You are walking on the word of God.
