The Powers Behind the Pain

Behold, the hand of the LORD is upon thy cattle which is in the field, upon the horses, upon the asses, upon the camels, upon the oxen, and upon the sheep: there shall be a very grievous murrain. Exodus 9:3

This is the fifth plague. It targeted several Egyptian gods. Wikipedia reports that “Hathor is one of the main cattle deities as she is the mother of Horus and Ra and closely associated with the role of royalty and kingship. Hesat is one of Hathor’s manifestations, usually portrayed as a white cow representing purity and the milk that she produces to give life to humanity”. Herodotus repots that, the holiest of all animals in Ancient Egypt were cows and bulls. Livestock was very important, therefore ,in the life of ancient Egyptian economy. Apart from suppling food, they were worshipped. God was going to deal with this gods by a special display of animal diseases. Gods interest was not just to rescue His people, but to also destroy the foundations of evil worship. Jesus Christ demonstrated this pattern in Mat.12:28-29. Deliverance will be complete with the destruction of the strong man. Sometimes we are so eager to get a reprieve that we forget to address the powers behind the pains. God won’t let the devil escape this time. Deal with all resistances behind your pain. That is your covenant right.
